Yggdrasil is a music project made by Mattias Eriksson and Andreas Lingbrand. Both of them have been making music for a couple of years (mostly electronic) and in the summer 2004 they gave birth to Yggdrasil. At first they did a lot of psychedelic chill-out music, but later started to mix it with Scandinavian folk music. Working in two studios, with professional folk musicians they are now developing a new sound within the psychedelic music scene. Using computers, synthesizers, guitars, fiddle, keyed fiddle, percussions, jaw’s harps and vocals, they are telling you some mysterious tales from the north. This are the first two tracks, made by Yggdrasil.

Even thought I have most of the CD releases that many of these cuts originally came off of,I decided to get a copy of 'Ambient Time Travelers'.I remember hearing about club DJ's here and there playing a couple of these tunes after 11pm on the weekends.All are fully welcome.I liked the Anubian Light's "Soul Herder",The Brain-"Precambrian Shuffle",Zero Gravity's "Mental Atmosphere" and the Surface 10 cut "Storm Scout" the best.Cool cover.

This cd from Abre Noir comes in a nice digipack with good graphics.
It is the third release from Arbre Noir on Polymorph, earlier they
made the album "Beyond" and a collaboartion with Polygon, entitled
"Traveller".In direct contrast to ''Beyond'', this opus reveals a
lighter sound, mixing percussive rhythms with elemental sound
sources with dense electronics.
Arbre Noir consists of three members: Jens Dittberner on various
types of percussion, Rudiger Schlecht plays didgeridoos and Mickael
Vassallo takes care of various instruments, including the electronic
parts. The result of this combination is a mixture of modern
technology and ancient traditions. I would describe the music of
Arbre Noir as tribal or ethnic soundscapes. One of the songs is
called 'Futuretribal', that would also be a nice label. The music is
most of the times rather slow, with subtle rhythms. A few pieces are
a little more uptempo, almost danceable, like 'Sacred' or 'The
Hunt'.
The didgeridoo sound fits in well with the tribal percussion and the
atmospheric electronics. Added to this are elements like nature
sounds and at times some voices in the background. Sometimes I have
to think a little of the work of Ulf Soderberg (Sephiroth), or
perhaps some more ritual projects of Peter Andersson (Raison d'Etre)
or some ethnic pieces of Delerium. But overall Arbre Noir manages to
create an own sound, which is at the other hand rather universal,
taking you to various times and places...Limited to 900 copies.
